What: Between Dust and Distant Sky, a solo exhibition by Pradeep Thalawatta
Where: LATITUDE 28
When: August 21 – September 19, 2026

Between Dust and Distant Sky by Pradeep Thalawatta explores how images of distant places, conflict, and everyday life enter personal memory and gradually reshape our understanding of home and landscape. Working with used sandpaper, tar, wrapping paper, photographs, children’s sticker cards, and domestic objects, Thalawatta treats materials as repositories of memory, allowing traces of dust, construction, childhood, and transformation to become part of the works themselves.

The exhibition emerges partly from the artist’s experience of fatherhood, placing the innocence and imaginative worlds of childhood alongside images of children affected by conflict, displacement, and loss. Rather than illustrating war directly, Thalawatta examines the ways its images travel across borders and settle within intimate spaces. Landscapes are folded, rolled, burnt, layered, archived, and reconstructed, creating a visual vocabulary where the distant and the personal become increasingly difficult to separate. In bringing these disparate images together, the exhibition reflects on the formation of memory and empathy, asking how places we have never encountered can nevertheless become landscapes we carry within ourselves.
